Since 28 September 2006 Don Muang Airport was closed for all scheduled flights and all systems at the new Suvarnabhumi Airport have been sucessfully operating since then.The new airport is in an entirely different location so if you’re planning to spend the night near the airport we recommend the new purpose built Novotel Suvarnbhumi which is connected to the airport by a underground walkway.
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is located around approximately 40 minutes drive South East from the current Bangkok Don Mueng International Airport. The main access road is an elevated 10 lane highway connected to the outer ring road network and also directly connects to the Bangkok – Chonburi (Pattaya) motorway.
Under construction is a high speed rail link spanning almost 27 kilometres from the airport to Makkasan where it will connect with the BTS and MRT transit systems. Completion of this project is planned by the end of 2007.
